[KpopHerald x TwitterBlueroom] IZ ready to rock summer with new EP
By Ahn Sung-mi
Ahead of releasing its new single, rookie band IZ appeared in a Twitter Blueroom Live session Tuesday evening to chat with fans about the upcoming release and indulge fan’s curiosity about the four bandmates.
IZ, which released new EP “Re: IZ” in May, is set to drop new EP “From: IZ” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with lead track “Final Kiss.”
The four bandmates, dressed in colorful and dandy outfits, arrived at Twitter Korea’s headquarters situated on the 41st floor of a skyscraper in Gangnam. They couldn’t hide their excitement to appear on Twitter’s live show for the first time.
“In the past we released music only once a year,” said Jihoo, the vocalist of the group. “But this time, we are making a comeback twice this year, so I am very excited. During the break, I had my birthday so I got to celebrate with the members and went on a trip together.”
Bassist Junyoung expressed how he felt really nervous before the live session, but was happy to be there.
To start off, the four started by introducing themselves through profiles written by each other on the spot during the broadcast.
Drummer Woosu was described as a “cutie boy,” with his strengths being his small face and optimistic personality. He was also cited as a morning person, his bandmates added.
Junyoung has a kind personality and is not a picky eater, able to eat almost everything. He was called a “human navigator” who can locate places well.
Hyunjun’s strength were pinpointed as his good looks and laid-back personality.
Jihoo’s favorite food is anything sweet, including the French macaron and donuts. He likes ramen and meat as well.
The band also answered fans’ questions during the broadcast and talked about the new album.
“Our story starts with IZ and through our albums,” said Hyunjun. “While the first single ‘Eden’ talked about searching for our identity, I think the latest album shows our growth as a band.”
“The lead track has that clear and cool summer vibe in the song,” explained Jihoo. “It talks about not regretting over a love that has already passed.”
Since the new song is about summer, the bandmates talked about what they like to do in the season.
“I like going to water parks. But ever since joining the company, I didn’t get to go. It would be fun to go with other members,” said Jihoo.
“I love eating cold spicy mixed noodles in the summer,” said Woosu. “Adding ice and kimchi, it’s just amazing.”
“Before joining the company, I used to go on overseas trips with my family. But now I want to travel with my fellow members -- maybe the US.”
“I want to go to Paris,” said Hyunjun. “I recently watched the film ‘Midnight in Paris’ and this made me want to visit the place.”
Going forward, the bandmates talked about their goals for the latest release.
“I want viewers to see we are a band that can portray our colors well, no matter what kind of concept we come up with,” said Jihoo, referring to the group’s unique style and charm.
“Lots of bands talk about ranking high on the music charts. That would be great. But I also want listeners to be able to grasp our concept and color and direction through listening to our music,” added Hyunjun.
