BTS confirmed to headline 2018 Golden Discs
After sweeping awards at several year-end K-pop award ceremonies, BTS confirmed its appearance at the 2018 Golden Disc Awards.
According to local media outlets on Thursday, the K-pop phenomenon will attend the prestigious annual music awards show, which will take place over two days, on Jan. 5 and 6, at Gocheok Skydome in Seoul. The act is scheduled to attend both days, but only to perform on the second.
The first day of the event is for digital awards, while the second is to be dedicated to awards for physical albums.
BTS leads all nominees with several nods, nominated for both the Album Daesang, or grand prize, and Digital Daesang for the album “Love Yourself: Answer” and single “Fake Love.”
The group will face competition from acts including EXO, Twice and Red Velvet, each of which were nominated in both categories, with the winners chosen based on sales as well as evaluation from expert judges.
Thirty acts have been nominated the Album Daesang and Digital Daesang awards, and only one act will take home each prize.
BTS first attended the Golden Disc Awards in 2014, and won its first grand prize for a physical release with “Love Yourself: Her” in January this year.
The upcoming event will air live on JTBC, with Lee Seung-gi, Park Min-young, Sung Si-kyung and Kang so-ra hosting.
