Do you know who NCT 127 is? Here are some essential facts about the up-and-coming boy band that could well be on the path to international stardom.

1. Who is NCT 127?

NCT 127 -- that’s pronounced “NCT one-two-seven” -- comes from NCT, which stands for Neo Culture Technology, a term coined by the head of S.M. Entertainment, and indicates the group has no cap on the number of its members.

The group consists of Haechan, Mark, Winwin, Taeyong, Jaehyun, Yuta, Taeil, Doyoung, Johnny and Jungwoo, the last three of which joined after it was already formed.

2. NCT 127 is a subunit of NCT

There have officially been three subunits of NCT so far, beginning with NCT U formed in 2016, NCT 127 based in Seoul and NCT Dream, the last to debut.

There have been reports a fourth unit is on the way, which has been unofficially dubbed NCT China.

3. Why No. 127?

The number “127” in the act’s name marks the longitudinal coordinate of Seoul, which is located at about 37 degrees north by 127 degrees east in the system commonly used for GPS tracking.

4. Already a success on charts

The group topped the singles chart of music program “The Show” two weeks in a row with the single “Regular.”

The group’s first studio album, “NCT #127 Regular-Irregular,” also topped a number of streaming charts, including the Gaon Chart.

Despite having debuted in July 2016, the group has already landed its full-length album on Billboard’s albums chart, debuting at No. 86 and becoming the second-highest-charting Korean boy band after BTS.

Other K-pop acts to have charted in the top 200 include Black Pink and 2NE1.

NCT 127 also appeared on ABC’s late-night “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in early October, premiering the English rendition of “Regular” to a national US audience.
